Your taco bar won’t quite be on the same level as our street tacos, but it will make a great spread for your Halloween party. Here’s what you need.
Start with the Base
Every taco starts with the base. Offer a selection of corn tortillas, flour tortillas, and hard taco shells to allow for everyone’s preferences. Here’s a pro tip: warm the tortillas and taco shells in the oven until you’re ready to serve.
Protein Options
The heart of any taco is the protein. The most common option is seasoned ground beef, but you can also go for chicken, pork, or grilled steak. When you’re hosting a party, it’s a good idea to have two or three available options. If you have any vegetarian guests, refried or black beans are also a good protein option. And, of course, you can’t leave out the cheese! Freshly grated is always best if you have time, but a pre-shredded Mexican blend is fine for a party.
Salsa, Salsa, Salsa!
Salsa is a staple of Mexican cuisine, and no taco bar is complete without it! Give your guests a variety of spice levels. The simplest way to meet everyone’s tastes is to have a mild, medium, and hot option. You can easily make your own pico de gallo with onions, tomatoes, and cilantro. For visual variety, include classic red salsa and salsa verde options.
Don’t Forget the Toppings
We’ve covered the basics, but we can’t forget the toppings. Classic favorites include sour cream, guacamole, and lettuce. For some extra heat, slice up some jalapeños!
