Make It Through Lent with Vegetarian Options at Los Reyes

February 15, 2026

The middle of February marks the start of Lent this year, and that means giving up meat for many people. That seasonal restriction may eliminate a fair number of restaurants in Derry from your options, but not Los Reyes! Mexican food is a versatile cuisine, and many dishes are vegetarian or can be made without meat while remaining satisfying. Just because you’re giving up eating meat between now and Easter, that doesn’t mean you have to give up on enjoying delicious Mexican food.

If you’re becoming a temporary vegetarian for Lent, you need restaurants in Derry that offer flavorful and satisfying veggie options. In short, you need to visit Los Reyes.

Tacos, Tacos, and More Tacos

Street tacos are our signature dish at Los Reyes, and you don’t have to give them up just because you’re not eating meat for the next six weeks. In fact, we have three taco options on our menu that are expressly vegetarian. Our Veggie Street Tacos feature a mix of sautéed vegetables that includes red bell peppers, roasted corn, broccoli, zucchini, and carrots. Served on corn tortillas and topped with cotija cheese, it will make you barely think of eating vegetarian as a sacrifice.

If you’re looking for something that you probably haven’t had at other Derry restaurants, our Avocado Tacos and Mexican Potato Tacos are must-try menu items. Our Avocado Tacos balance crisp and creamy with fresh avocado, lettuce, our Southwest Pico de Gallo, sour cream, and cotija cheese. Mexican Potato Tacos are a unique delight: crunchy, fried, rolled tacos filled with Mexican-style mashed potatoes, served with lettuce, tomato, sour cream, and cotija cheese.

Nachos, Burritos, and Quesadillas

Nachos are an easy go-to vegetarian option, and our Southwest Nachos are no exception. We top tortilla chips with sautéed veggies, black beans, and melted cheese, served with cheese dip. For additional flavors and textures, you can load up your nachos with guacamole and sour cream.

We weren’t exaggerating when we said that nearly all Mexican dishes can be made vegetarian. Take our Veggie Burrito, for instance. You may think that a burrito is incomplete without grilled chicken or carnitas, but you’ll change your mind. In addition to the expected filling of rice, beans, and pico de gallo, we also include a load of sautéed veggies, including red bell peppers, zucchini, carrots, broccoli, roasted corn, and red onion. If you prefer your tortilla to be flatter, crispier, and cheesier, we can stuff all those veggies in a quesadilla, too.
